Folk Club events on 24th and 25th June are part of Chesterton Festival 2016. June 22, 2016 00:00

The Chesterton Festival which runs from 18th to 25th June (details can be found on www.chestertonfestival.com) have included the Cambridge Folk Club in their programme. The two events are  on FRIDAY AND SATURDAY 24TH AND 25TH JUNE:

FRIDAY 24th June: TIM EDEY supported by David Youngs.

Tim is an outstanding multi-instrumentalist/ singer and former Radio 2  Musician of the Year, with fabulous finger-style guitarist David Youngs as support. Come early!

In 2012, outstanding multi-instrumentalist and singer Tim Edey won not one but two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards (Musician Of The Year and Best Duo with Brendan Power), since when he has played with many top notch musicians in Celtic/contemporary roots music, including The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon and Natalie MacMaster. Initially influenced by melodeon players Luke Daniels and Andy Cutting, Tim was converted to Celtic music once he heard Sharon Shannon. Joining Ed Boyd's band Red Ciel at the age of 16 also helped to shape his guitar playing. "Playing or recording with all of my musical heroes is one of the things I am most proud of." His latest album, "Live in Scotland", was recorded by the Tim Edey Trio for the Australian tour of 2014/15. www.timedey.co.uk

David Youngs is a multi-instrumentalist based in Cambridge, UK. In recent years he has focused intensely on the acoustic guitar, developing a percussive, finger-style approach to produce instrumental works often featuring unusual yet accessible time signatures and scales. In April this year, David won the title of Best Acoustic Act in The Cambridge Band Competition. His debut album 'Transience' was described by Guitarist Magazine as "A clear and unambiguous announcement - the arrival of a talented addition to the ranks of elite acoustic stylists who've followed in the footsteps of the late, much lamented EricRoche.

Wonderful quote from Jess Morgan November 24, 2015 01:38

Jess said this on Facebook after taking part in this year's EACH Charity concert:

"I thought about it a lot over the weekend and continue still to be moved by
and thankful for the support and encouragement I've receieved from the
wonderful team running Cambridge Folk Club. It was a lovely thing to be
involved in last week's EACH fundraiser and a rarity for me to take to the
stage feeling completely at ease. It really stood out for me how going to
the club from floorsinger to mixed bills to a solo show - has not only
punctuated the journey so far but each visit has breathed new life and
confidence into what I do. I really look forward to seeing you as the Jess
Morgan Trio next year!"
