Louise and Chris Rogan are an award-winning daughter and father Folk Duo who sing original and traditional songs. They’re making their first visit to Cambridge Folk Club.
In 2023 they won the Audience Vote at the Great British Folk Festival and released their début album “Things That Matter”. Bob Leslie of FATEA Magazine described the album as “one of the best début releases in the tradition genre I have heard.”
The duo are at home on stages large or small. Reviews vouch for their quality from appearances at Celtic Connections, Gate to Southwell, Sidmouth Festival and the UK West Coast Folk Festival where they replaced Cara Dillon “all done in fine style” Damian Liptrot of At The Barrier and recently, Costa Festival Ibiza.
Louise sang with McGoldrick, McCusker and Doyle in 2023 to great acclaim. She has recorded a solo album with Mike McGoldrick, and has invited a number of stellar artists to join her, including her Dad. “The beautiful "Give Me A Day" is one of the tracks from the album and if that is anything to go by, the album will be a sure-fire hit” Rory Stainbridge, FATEA Magazine.
With Louise on keyboard and Chris on guitar, the accompaniment to all their songs is never overpowering and lets Louise’s vocal soar - “a pure and soaring voice" David Jones, Folk Northwest.
“Louise's voice is superb. I believe it is unrivalled on the current folk scene. Ally that to Chris' intricate guitar work and soft tenor vocal and you have a delightful act. They are not to be missed." John Owen - Hungry Horse Folk Club.
"Nothing quite prepared me for the quality of Louise's vocal and the wonderful on-set chemistry of the combination"..."their songs oozed genuine class" Rory Stainbridge, FATEA Magazine.
Originally formed in 2009 The Medlars are folk trio from Essex, performing songs and tunes originated and rooted in the folk tradition, revisiting and creating new arrangements of classic English folk songs with a contemporary feel. Its current line up formed from a chance encounter at Folk East 2017, The Medlars are now Alie Barnes - vocals, Emma Hardy - fiddle/vocals, Tom Hardy guitar/vocals.
Alie grew up with the influences of the East Anglian fens in her blood and has been performing and running folk clubs since the mid-1980s. Emma has a classical music background and Tom is a self-taught guitarist, with a wide range of influences from folk to punk. Whilst original influences remain, these have expanded, drawing in ideas from within and outside the tradition. The Medlars have performed at festivals, such as Bobbing Barn, Chippenham Folk Festival, Moira, The White Horse, and Upton, and Folk Clubs including Colchester, Hadleigh, Loughton, The Hoy at Anchor, Waveney, and Wivenhoe.
