Danii Reales (UK) and Saúl Diaz (Spain) come together to create the exquisitely quirky and refreshingly grounded sound of South of Polaris.
Touched by grief the pair turned to music as a solace, releasing the intense emotions that bereavement brings through honest intimate lyrics, the fire of flamenco and the down-to-earth story telling of folk. The song writing is sublime, surprising and fiercely relatable, but it is the combination of Danii's soaring, unforgettable vocals, haunting whilst energetic violin motifs and Saul's intricate artistry on electro classical guitar that truly draws you to South of Polaris.
In two short years they have made an impressive mark on the UK folk scene, earning spots on Alan Ritson's Fine Folk (Lincoln City Radio), The Folk Club (Burwell Radio), Folk Friday, and BBC Introducing. Their captivating live performances have seen them open for Mad Dog Mcrea and Rioghnach Connolly & Honeyfeet, and grace stages and festivals around the UK, most recently performing at The West Coast Folk Festival (Blackpool), John Peel Centre, and Hertford Corn Exchange.
Their success has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, they were nominated for a Cambridge Radio NMG Award in the Folk and Americana category, alongside notable acts like Imlac and Christina Alden & Alex Patterson. Capping off an incredible year, they released their debut EP, The Year After, in December 2024, cementing their place as rising voices in the folk scene
A number of 10-minute floor spots will also be available on the night.
