20191129: Friday 29th November: Fred's House
Support: Chris Fox
Fred’s House are Gafyn Jameson (bass, backing vocals), Vikki Gavin (lead vocals, percussion), Lachlan Golder (lead guitar) and Paul Richards (drums). This evening they will also be joined by Prue Suckling (violin & vocals). Their reputation as one of the best and most uplifting live bands on the circuit is going before them. Fred’s House make summery 70s West Coast inspired folk/rock but have their own distinctively fresh sound that is very much part of now. This group of musicians has the rare ability to sweep you away with their gorgeous harmonies, moving lyrics, infectious melodies and uplifting grooves inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Lissie and Janis Joplin.
The band scooped the prestigious Syd Barrett Pride of Cambridge Award 2017 and Best Folk, Acoustic and Country Artist 2018 at the annual NMG Awards, and have toured China as part of the Nanjing International Music Festival. They have released three critically acclaimed albums since forming in 2010: ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ (2014); ‘Faultlines’ (2016) and ‘Careless’ (2018). The quartet have extensively toured the UK and played some big festivals including Bestival and Cambridge Folk Festival. Their outstanding, energetic live shows are gathering them rave reviews. If you need a dose of the feel-good factor, this is the band for you!
“Fred’s House are a very popular band who have built up a significant following and they were quickly bringing the house down” Maverick Magazine.
An independent musician and Loop station chemist, Chris has worked his way up through the Cambridge music scene over the past few years, steadily acclaiming greater presence at an increasing number of stages and festivals, including Cambridge Folk Festival. His music reflects thought-provoking topics and humorous insights on life with deep powerful vocals and varied and eclectic guitar styles that span the roots lexicon of Americana, Folk, Country and Blues. His second CD, ‘From the Shadows’, is about to be released, and in October he won this year's songwriting contest at Lichfield Festival of Folk - L2F.
“Whether it’s his self-penned work, his thoughtful interpretations of songs from the tradition, or his skilled, ambitious guitar work, we’ve always appreciated Chris’ musicianship” Cambridge Folk Club.
