20180615: Friday 15th June: Said The Maiden

Support: Melody Causton

Said the Maiden: After performing a few songs at Redbourn Folk Club, trio Jess Distill, Hannah Elizabeth and Kathy Pilkinton soon gained recognition on the local and national folk circuit. They joined legendary fiddler the late Dave Swarbrick on his UK solo tour in 2014, and also released their debut album 'A Curious Tale' that year. Their acclaimed EP, ‘Of Maids and Mariners’, followed in 2016, and their second studio album, Here’s A Health, came out in 2017. After winning the Folking Awards ‘Rising Star’ prize in 2017 and being given an NMG Award nomination for best Acoustic, Country & Folk act, the trio went on to make international appearances at the 60th Jazz & Joy Festival in Worms, Germany, and at Costa del Folk in Portugal. In 2018 Said the Maiden were involved with the performance project The Company of Players, writing original songs inspired by Shakespeare’s plays to celebrate the Bard’s 400th anniversary. This 10-strong contemporary folk supergroup also featured Sam Kelly, Lukas Drinkwater, Daria Kulesh, Chris Cleverley, Kelly Oliver, Hannah Elizabeth and Kim Lowings.

Melody Causton: Growing up immersed in folk festivals whilst her parents performed, it's no wonder singer/songwriter Melody has naturally taken to the music scene. She has just released her new EP ‘Days Like These’, supported a number of respected folk acts such as Megson, and has also won Best Female solo artist at the Cambridge NMG awards in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
