20180420: Friday 20th April: na-mara; Paul McClure Trio
Support: Cliff Ward and John Parker
Herts-based duo Na-Mara are described by Folk London as "elegant and skilled musicians". They perform in venues and festivals across the UK and have in recent times performed in France, Germany and Spain and featured in broadcasts on BBC Radio 4 and a host of local radio stations. Their music includes self-penned songs in traditional style on contemporary and historical topics; traditional songs from the British Isles; their own translations of songs from the Breton, French and Quebecois traditions, and tunes from Brittany, France and the Spanish Celtic regions of Asturias and Galicia.
"that's what Na-Mara do best: tell stories to which you can't but listen...” Rock & Reel Magazine
Paul McClure: Americana Folk singer songwriter and full-time touring Troubadour Paul McClure returns with his trio – Paul McClure And The Local Heroes'.
With piano, acoustic guitar and beautiful three-part harmonies they perform songs from McClure's critically acclaimed albums taking the audience on a journey through heartbreakingly delicate to foot-stoppingly raucous!
"Remarkable songwriter...we should all work on helping make him the star he deserves to be." - Mojo
John Parker; previously of Nizlopi fame and Cliff Ward, founding member of The Willows, are a duo that now seem like an act that destiny brought together. Between them they hold many years experience on the stage and are excited to be performing together.
Their first encounter was through Stu Hanna performing as the Megson band in 2016. It was obvious right from the first rehearsal that the two jelled together with the same musicality and sense of humour!
After many years compiling a long list of solo songs Cliff felt the time was right to start going out playing them and John was onboard from the outset. Alternative, acoustic jazz/pop with influences from John Martin, John Butler, Newton Faulkner, Go Go Penguin and many more... Ward & Parker are set to release there first single in 2018 and gig as much as possible across the UK.
