20171027: Friday 27th October: The Dovetail Trio
Support: Sound Tradition
Presenting England's traditional songs with a bold and fresh approach, The Dovetail Trio explore familiar narratives and modern themes with infectious energy and a passion for musical heritage, effortlessly combining the distinctive voices and acclaimed instrumental talents of BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jamie Roberts (guitar, vocals); BBC Performing Arts Award winner Rosie Hood (vocals); and Newcastle Folk Degree alumnus Matt Quinn (duet concertina, vocals). With its tight vocal harmonies and skilled musicianship, their exciting 2015 debut album ‘Wing of Evening’ features a number of unusual versions of traditional English songs alongside an American folk story, a traditional Scottish whaling song, and even a French/Canadian tune set.
Rapidly building a reputation well beyond their East Anglian roots, David, Linda, Catherine and Moose are an a cappella folk foursome who sing in glorious harmony. Their varied repertoire, taken from Medieval times to the modern day, ranges from lively chorus songs to lilting ballads, and their arrangements always respect the heritage of the English folk tradition. They have proudly supported such luminaries as Martin Carthy, Dave Swarbrick, Chris Wood and Roy Bailey, but also enjoy the main stage in their own right. Their second CD, ‘Well Met My Friend’ is out now!
