Combining the mercurial talents of English song-writing legend Boo Hewerdine and acclaimed American blues guitarist and songwriter Brooks Williams, State of the Union create a magical, stripped back and enthralling musical atmosphere, their performances consistently brilliant, in equal parts emotive and entertaining. Since forming in 2012, they released two critically acclaimed albums, State of the Union and Snake Oil, in quick succession. Their original songs are infused by a multitude of influences, from Willie Nelson to Johnny Cash, from the emptiness of the Fenlands to the frenetic buzz of the city.

Before embarking on his successful solo career, Boo was frontman of the band The Bible. He has a musical CV of international collaborations and hit songs stretching over two decades, and has written songs for Eddi Reader, Sia, Chris Difford, Kris Drever and K D Lang, amongst others. His most recent album, “Swimming In Mercury”, came out in February 2017.
Ranked in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists, Brooks is a mean finger-picker and a stunning slide guitarist, but also has “a beautiful voice that you just melt into.” His music is the love-child of country-blues and soulful Americana. He has worked stages worldwide for close to thirty years, touring constantly in the US, Canada, UK and Europe.

“Beautiful, classy playing and great songs” - Acoustic Magazine.

Martin Baxter's Back Porch Trio: Martin Baxter's mid-Atlantic DNA makes him especially interested in exploring musical styles and traditions, often creatively adapting them, or using them to influence his original compositions. Accompanying his singing on guitar or banjo, Martin’s performance sometimes includes unexpected subtleties of wit, emotion and commentary. Joining Martin in the Back Porch Trio are Pete Sawski on guitar and Patrick Hoskin on harmonica.
