20190607: Friday 7th June: Ward and Parker; Highwire

Support: Naomi Randall

Ward & Parker are experienced musicians John Parker (Nizlopi) and Cliff Ward (The Willows), who decided to form a duo after being thrown together by Stu Hanna (Megson) to form The Megson Band in 2016. The combination of John's beautiful soaring double bass and beatboxing style accompanying Cliff's songs and guitar playing is the perfect mix. Their diverse set includes upbeat pop and soul-searching songs of love and loss, with influences from John Martyn, John Butler, Newton Faulkner and others, all performed with fine musicality. What’s more, they’ve just released their debut album, ‘One’, with a guest appearance from Jade Rhiannon (The Willows), who adds some beautiful harmonies.

"A fantastic duo with huge potential really extending the boundaries of folk; a must-watch act!” - Cambridge Folk Club.

Highwire is a collective of folk, jazz, blues and country musicians based in London, who come together to make one almighty sound. They have a mix of line ups, from stripped back acoustic duets up to the full sound with the eight-piece band. They have worked with top ten producers, performed with top artists and musicians, and have appeared at notable venues such as Ronnie Scotts, the ICA and just about every London circuit venue.

Johanna Lee’s voice has been described as "One of the most astonishing voices around" - OVOLF Festival, Cambridge.

Naomi Randall has played in a duo with Tom Gaskell, and their treatment of traditional material and self-penned songs was described as having a ‘laid back summer meadows’ sound. Since 2016, she has been working with Lea Nicholson, whose recording career spans over 50 years. Their music has its roots in traditional English folk, West Coast rock and psychedelia. This evening she will be performing solo.

“Randall possesses a truly classic English voice – comparable with the very best” - fRoots.
